Overview of efforts to contribute to the SDGs

Fishery Industry Promotion in Timor-Leste

The Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste achieved independence from Indonesia in 2002 after a civil war, but has not developed any industries other than those related to oil and coffee. Surrounded by the sea, Timor-Leste is a maritime country similar to Japan.

However, its fisheries and fish processing industries are underdeveloped, and the country is unable to take full advantage of its abundant marine resources. This is due to the lack of knowledge and experience of the fishermen in the country.

Based on the knowledge and experience of Harima Ocean Farm, we aim to improve the capacity and income of the fishery processing industry and related people in the country and promote the fishery industry by developing business with fishery related people in the country. In addition, the project aims to contribute to other SDGs such as the eradication of hunger and sustainable economic growth.
